DATABASE
2.6 - DATABASE - Display of Elemental Data
This program displays various elemental data held by WinGX. These data are
read in from the file ELEMENT.DAT (stored in the WinGX files directory). At present
only the covalent and van der Waals radii may be modified by user intervention.
The changes are not stored permanently, and are only effective during the duration
of a WinGX session. Various programs such as GEOM use these radii. The other data
are for information purposes only.
In order to change any data permanently, it is necessary
to edit the file ELEMENT.DAT, but take great care !!! The file has a
fixed format structure, and unwarranted changes may make the file unreadable.
Note also that SHELXL uses the scattering factors and X-ray dispersion terms
held in its own internal tables, unless the full form of the
SFAC instruction is used.
Changes made to the file ELEMENT.DAT therefore WILL NOT
automatically be picked up by SHELXL.
