Words Which Have Special Meanings in MOTPLOT
- SPECTRUM: a spectrum is a set of x and y values
- GRAPH: a graph is something which can be plotted, it consists of
some spectra, labels for the axes, a title, colours for
axes and other such information
- PLOT: a plot is a window displaying a graph. At present the
distinction between a graph and a plot is not important
to users. Later it will be possible for a plot to contain
more than one graph
- POINTER: the pointer ( or pointer cursor ) is the symbol which moves
about on the screen when you move the mouse about.
- BUTTON: a button on the mouse OR an item in one of the program's
windows which looks like a button and is operated by
pressing one ( usually the left ) of the mouse buttons
while the pointer is over it.
- MENUBAR: an area at the top of a window which contains the names
of menus. The menus become visible if the right mouse
button is pressed when the pointer passes over them
- SELECT: items in lists may be selected as the targets for actions

- CLICK: a press and release of a mouse button
- DRAG: a mouse button drag consists of three steps, the mouse
button is pressed, the mouse is moved, the mouse button
is released
- OPTION MENU: an item used for selecting one from several alternatives.
Only the current value is displayed. The option menu
looks like a push button except that there is a small
raised rectangular area near its right edge.
- RADIO BOX: an item used to select one from a few alternatives. A radio
box is a row of buttons only one of which can be pressed in
at any given time.
